چکیده

Radio protective effects of metformin and its ability to alter the spontaneous induced genotoxic cytotoxic levels on human peripheral blood lymphocytes were investigated in this study. Metformin, a hypoglycemic oral drug, is biguanide derived from Galega officinalis that widely utilized controlling type 2 diabetes mellitus. Whole samples 10 healthy donors (5 males 5 females) exposed two doses gamma-rays (1 Gray). Lymphocytes cultures treated with (10 50µM) before gamma-irradiation. Cytokinesis-block micronucleus test was used evaluate radiation genomic damage, cytostasis cytotoxicity, via scoring micronuclei nucleoplasmic bridges once divided binucleated cells as well counting nuclear division index. The results current study revealed increase rate associated decrease index gamma dose dependent manner. Metformin effectively decreased paralleled control increased Moreover, treatment whole 50 µM), h preceding irradiation, remarkably reduced accompanied an rate. introduced be effective radio protector against DNA damage by it can develop materials for protection cancer patients prompted radiotherapy.

Assessment of the radioprotective effects of amifostine on human lymphocytes irradiated in vitro by gamma-rays using cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus assay

Background: A radioprotective effect of amifostine as well as its ability to modulate the level of spontaneous and gamma-irradiation-induced genetic changes on human peripheral blood lymphocytes has been investigated . Amifostine, known as a potent radical scavenger, has been introduced as the most effective radioprotector, yet it is not completely approved for the clinical use. However, furt...

Assessment of the radioprotective effects of amifostine and melatonin on human lymphocytes irradiated with gamma-rays in vitro.

Radioprotective effects of amifostine and melatonin as well as their ability to modulate the level of spontaneous and gamma-irradiation-induced genetic changes on human peripheral blood lymphocytes were investigated using the cytokinesis-block micronucleus (CBMN) assay and sister chromatid exchange (SCE). Parallel blood samples were pre-treated with amifostine, melatonin and their combination f...

In vitro radioprotective effects of histamine H2 receptor antagonist against gamma-rays induced chromosomal aberrations in human lymphocytes.

Background: Radioprotective capability of histamine H2 receptor antagonists have been shown in several in vivo studies mainly using animal models. However, to verify the effectiveness of these agents in clinical applications, studies should be performed on human cells. In the present study radioprotective properties of these agents was examined in vitro on human lymphocytes using metaphase anal...
